Privacy Policy

🔒 Short version: Teranima collects only what is necessary to run the app. We never sell your data and do not build advertising profiles about you. Your pets' records remain under your control, and you can delete your data at any time.

1. Introduction & Scope

Teranima ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights.

This policy is designed to comply with applicable privacy laws, including the GDPR (EU/EEA), UK GDPR, and relevant platform requirements.

By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.

2. Data Controller

The data controller is Izabella Balint, an individual residing in Romania. You may contact us at itsjulia.dev@gmail.com or through the in-app support option.

3. Information We Collect

We collect only data necessary to provide the App's functionality.

a) Account Information

When you sign in using Google:

  • Email address
  • Name and profile photo (if provided by Google)
  • Account creation and login timestamps

b) User Content

  • Pet profiles (name, species, etc.)
  • Health records, notes, reminders, and related content

c) Technical & Diagnostic Data (only with your consent)

  • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
  • Usage data (Firebase Analytics)
  • Device type, OS version, app version

d) What We Do NOT Collect

  • Location data
  • Contacts or address book
  • Payment information
  • Biometric data
  • Data from other apps

We limit data collection strictly to what is necessary to provide the App.

4. How We Collect Data

We collect data:

  • directly from you
  • via Google (Google Sign-In)
  • via Firebase services and related Google SDKs that support authentication, cloud backup, feedback handling, analytics, crash reporting, and ads

5. Legal Basis (GDPR)

We rely on:

  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to provide the App
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for analytics and crash reporting
  • Legitimate Interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — security and stability
  • Legal Obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — where required

6. Data Storage & Security

Teranima uses both on-device storage and cloud services.

On-device storage

  • a local SQLite database stores your pet profiles, health records, reminders, notes, and related app data on your device
  • pet photos you choose are saved as local image files in the app's private documents storage on your device
  • SharedPreferences stores app settings and state such as theme choices, onboarding status, notification-related settings, analytics consent, legal-document acceptance, subscription status, and certain per-pet convenience data such as saved vet contact details

Cloud services

  • your sign-in account is managed through Firebase Authentication / Google Sign-In
  • for signed-in Premium users, eligible pet records are backed up automatically to Google Cloud Firestore under the user's account so they can be restored on a new device or after reinstalling the app
  • if you choose to send in-app bug reports or feature requests, the feedback you submit, along with your name, email, app version, platform, and user ID (if signed in), is stored in Firestore
  • if you opt in, Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics process diagnostic and usage data

We use:

  • encrypted transmission (TLS)
  • secure cloud infrastructure provided by Google
  • restricted access controls

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and your Google account. No system is completely secure.

7. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed outside the EEA, including in the United States. Transfers are safeguarded using:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs)
  • EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (where applicable)

8. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your data. We share data only with:

Service Providers

  • Google and Firebase services that support authentication, cloud storage/backup, analytics, crash reporting, and app infrastructure
  • Google AdMob and Google's consent management tooling for advertising in the free tier
  • Apple and Google platform services for app distribution and in-app subscription billing

Depending on the service and the applicable terms, these providers may act as our service providers / processors or as independent recipients for parts of the processing they perform.

Advertising

  • Google AdMob for ads in the free tier

AdMob may process limited device and contextual data, even when ads are non-personalized. Where required by law, we request consent before enabling advertising features.

Platform Providers

  • Apple Inc. and Google LLC for payments

Legal Requirements

We may disclose data if required by law or necessary to protect rights or safety.

Business Transfers

Data may be transferred in case of a sale or merger, with notice to users.

9. Analytics & Crash Reporting

We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics only with your consent. These services may process device, app, and usage-related identifiers and diagnostic information in pseudonymous or aggregated form to help us understand app usage and investigate stability issues. You can enable or disable this at any time in Settings.

10. Advertising

The free version may display ads via Google AdMob. Ads are configured as non-personalized by default. Premium users do not see ads.

11. Data Retention

We retain data:

  • while your account is active
  • until deletion is requested

After deletion:

  • data is removed within 30 days
  • backup copies may persist temporarily

Crash logs are deleted after a limited period.

12. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • access your data
  • correct data
  • delete data
  • restrict processing
  • object to processing
  • data portability
  • withdraw consent

You may exercise these rights via in-app support. You may also file a complaint with your Data Protection Authority.

13. Children

The App is not intended for users who are below the minimum age required to use the App under the laws of their country of residence. We do not knowingly collect children's data.

14. Third-Party Services

The App depends on third-party infrastructure (e.g., Firebase). We are not responsible for outages or issues caused by these providers.

15. Data Breaches

We will notify authorities and users of breaches as required by GDPR.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we may update the in-app legal notice flow, update the "Last updated" date on this page, and take other reasonable steps to notify users where appropriate. This Privacy Policy is provided as a notice about our data practices.

18. Data Deletion

You have the right to request the deletion of all personal data associated with your Teranima account. This includes your account information, all pet records, health history, medications, reminders, and any other content you have created within the app.

To submit a deletion request, use this form. We will process your request within 30 days and send a confirmation to your email address once the deletion is complete.

Data deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All pet records, health history, and account information will be permanently removed from our systems and cannot be recovered.
